Retail Price: $39.95 Available From: Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, Buy.com

Description: Critical for converting XML documents, and extremely versatile, the XSLT language nevertheless has complexities that can be daunting. The XSLT Cookbook is a collection of hundreds of solutions to problems that Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations (XSLT) developers regularly face. The recipes range from simple string-manipulation and mathematical processing to more complex topics like extending XSLT, testing and debugging XSLT stylesheets, and graphics creation with SVG. Recipes can be run directly or tweaked to fit your particular application's needs more precisely. The XSLT Cookbook provides an ideal companion both for developers still figuring out XSLT's template-based approach who want to learn by example, and for developers who know XSLT and want a collection of quickly reusable recipes. Each recipe walks through a problem and a solution, with explanations of the choices made and techniques used in creating that solution, and many recipes include alternate solutions and explore issues like convenience and performance. Among the variety of XSLT books now available, none has the explicit solution-oriented approach of this Cookbook.

XML in a Nutshell, 2nd Edition
Author: Elliotte Rusty Harold, W. Scott Means
ISBN: 0596002920
Publisher: O'Reilly & Associatess
Retail Price: $39.95 Available From: Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, Buy.com
Status: Usually ships within 24 hours
Description: Continuing in the tradition of the Nutshell series, XML in a Nutshell provides a dense tutorial on its subject, as well as a useful day-to-day reference. While the reader isn't expected to have prior expertise in XML, this book is most effective as an add-on to a more introductory tutorial because of its relatively fast pace. The authors set out to systematically--and rapidly--cover the basics of XML first, namely the history of the markup language and the various languages and technologies that compose the standard. In this first section, they discuss the basics of XML markup, Document Type Definitions (DTDs), namespaces, and Unicode. From there, the authors move into "narrative-centric documents" in a section that appropriately focuses on the application of XML to books, articles, Web pages and other readable content.

Teach Yourself XSLT in 21 Days
Author: Michiel van Otegem
ISBN: 0672323184
Publisher: SAMS
Retail Price: $39.99 Available From: Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, Buy.com
Status: Usually ships within 24 hours
Description: The book covers XSLT and Xpath (as a part of XSLT), as these topics have everything to do with processing XML. It will also cover XML from an XSLT processing and design point of view. Other XML technologies will not be discussed as superset of XSLT, most notably XSL. XSL Formatting Objects alone is enough material for an entire book. Apart from that, XSLT and Xpath form the processing/programming section of the entire XSL specification.

Beginning XML, 2nd Edition

ISBN: 0764543946
Publisher: Wrox
Retail Price: $39.99 Available From: Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, Buy.com
Status: Usually ships within 24 hours
Description: Beginning XML provides a complete course in the Extensible Markup Language (XML) with an unusually gradual learning curve. In fact, the introduction states that the book is "for people who know that it would be a pretty good idea to learn the language, but aren't 100 percent sure why." Despite its recognition of the fuzziness of readers' understanding of the technology, the book delivers a rather comprehensive study of XML. Very little space is wasted detailing the history of XML and its relation to SGML, as is the case in many other titles. The argument for the importance of XML is made quickly, and the basics of well-formed syntax are tackled right off. One notable distinction of this book is its excellent coverage of related technologies, such as cascading style sheets (CSS) and relational databases.

Retail Price: $39.95 Available From: Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, Buy.com

Description: Originally created for page layout, XSLT has grown into one of the core technologies for processing XML. XSLT brings XSLT's many functions together in a concise, comprehensive treatment of the technology. This book covers XSLT and XPath, a critical companion standard, and addresses subjects ranging from basic transformations to complex sorting and linking. It explores extension functions on a variety of different XSLT processors, and methods for combining multiple documents with XSLT. Examples demonstrate each technique. Useful as it is, XSLT can also be extremely daunting. Getting started is difficult, and advanced techniques require a through understanding of how XSLT templates work and interact. Doug Tidwell, a developer with years of XSLT experience, explains XSLT by building from the basics to the more complex and powerful possibilities of XSLT, so that whether you're just starting out or looking for advanced techniques, you'll find the level of information you need.
